Follow the leader and try to keep up!

Tuesday's swim class ended up being much more of a workout than I had anticipated. I got there a few minutes early to try and find a lane and get in some extra laps. Now that the weather is nice, suddenly everyone wants to swim. I think that those of us who were dedicated enough to swim at night in 40 degree temps should get lane priority HAHA All kidding aside, the swims have been chaotic lately now that they've moved us into the "family" pool. There are only 3 lanes, it's crowded and filthy - we're back to band aids and clumps of hair floating by *gag* I think everyone in the master's class would happily donate money to pay for an additional lifeguard to be stationed at the lap pool.

Anyway, last night's class was exceptionally crowded so we had to circle swim with five people in our lane. Circle swimming makes me a little frantic because I freak out thinking that I'm going to be the one to slow everyone down. The first part of the swim I was the only girl so that only added to the pressure to keep up. That's just my own weird complex, though. Overall, we had a wonderful group of swimmers and it was an awesome workout. I pushed much harder than I normally do and all the chaos in the pool definitely felt like more of a race day experience. It was just the butt kicking I needed!

Swim: 2650
500 warm up before class
2 x 75 build to sprint
400 warm up with the class
5 x 100 drills
500 ladder
10 x 50 fast (I consistently hit these in the 48-50 second range with 10 second RI)
100 cool down

Thanks for your comment on my blog about being at St. Anthony's ... I'm going to look for you. I'll be wearing a team in training jersey and black shorts and a white team in training hat at the finish. I'm sure that will narrow it down. HAHAHA! It would be cool if I got my finisher's medal from you...

fingers crossed, i haven't had to circle swim yet and really hope to never do it. i've split the lane down the middle but that's where i draw the line, no pun intended. i was thinking the same thing you said about the pools being crowded all of a sudden. where the hell were they when it was 40?? we are the diehards and deserve to have not just our own lanes but our own pool too. i think i saw a bandaid the other day and every now and then have to shake my hand b/c i feel a long hair get twisted in my fingers....eeewwww!

KC: There is a different bandaid int he water EVERY time I swim but the hair is really awful. I had one on my face the other night and it was all I could do to keep from puking. g-r-o-s-s!

Funny, around here when the weather gets nice, people stop hitting the pool.
